James Yuill - No Pins Allowed

Fast turn around and all done on a stills camera, this is easily the most stylised vid to date. Aliex Yuill back at the helm directing did an amazing job. Chopped together by Mike for this amazing track which we keep getting calls about saying "That guy is on Radio one!" It's possibly getting some MTV 2 time and other places. We would show you some pics, but the whole thing is pics so watch it again.

Frank Turner Reasons Not To Be An Idiot

The brief was to make a video with "a puppet in it" due to the fact that Mr
Frank Turner was away on tour across the pond and couldn't be in it! So the robotbadger got his thinking caps on and came up with the idea of making a puppet head out of wire and mod roc (bloody hard heavy plaster to you and me) to look like (in the loosest term) Frank himself and cut that performance with some digital stills of the story of the song.

The track is great, and the robotbadger was inspired by the sunshine. LUCKILY the shoot days were sunny or else NOTHING would have worked. As it is RB uses beautiful sunny graphics to really hammer the sunshine factor home. NICELY done.

Anyway

Part 1 began at 8am one Tuesday morning and probably consisted of over 3000 pictures taken throughout the day, that day ended at 8.30 at night, NON STOP. Part 2 was filmed one sunny Sunday on a brand new EX1 HD camera and some unimaginable puppeteering positions were performed.

oh didn't mention that HD filming day was halted abruptly when access to a roof top was impossible due to the key mysteriously going missing. The roof top shoot was postponed to the following evening. Unfortunately there are no pictures of the position aliex and james were in but suffice to say that no brother and sister should be put in that situation, and unbelievably james managed to play the guitar over the shoulders of puppet Frank who's heavy arse body was being held up by aliex (who by the way had been up since 6am puppeteering
Jelly all day) while he hid doubled up behind. All the while aliex had her head resting in between james' legs.

In the words of the robotbadger "NICE!"

James Yuill No Surprise

Filmed in two parts No Surprise was
James Yuill's first music video and ours too! The basic idea was to create a visual representation for each part of the track so if you were hard of hearing you could get an idea of the rhythm and perhaps the instrumentation and therefor still enjoy the track. The posters on the walls were shot blank and we added all of the images from the green screen shoot onto them in Post Production along with the words to really drive home the mute theme.

As usual a lot of favours are pulled in with these projects. Broadley Studios need a mention for filming the green screen shoot so well, a special thanks to Hopey for lighting and filming everything so well and Richard Landy for the access to the studio.

The Slaughtered Lamb in Farringdon need a mention as that's where we shot the main part of the video on a Saturday afternoon (Great little venue by the way) Thanks to Will of the electro accoustic club and Joe who cued up all the music and provided the most excellent microphone.

Obviously the crew especially DOP Scott Milton, 2nd Camera Christiaan Faberij De Jonge and all the people who turned up at the mention of help being needed must be mentioned (although the fact that it was in such a nice pub may have had something to do with it?) Thanks everyone, you made the robotbadger's directorial debut a fantastic day and the video came out great because of it. Cheers
